Dorothy Huskins Success
Meet Dorothy Huskins!
Dorothy Huskins entered Mayland Community College in 2000 as a dislocated worker from Vision Legwear when that industry’s local division closed.
“My first experience with Mayland was in the Adult Education Learning Lab,” said Huskins. “I needed a little refresher help before taking the college placement exam. The Learning Lab staff was so amazing and made me feel incredibly special. My confidence had fallen to an all time low when I lost my job; I felt as if I had lost my identity.”
With the encouragement and quality instruction from Mayland’s Learning Lab staff and the wonderful curriculum teachers, Huskins graduated with honors in 2002 with degrees in Medical Office Administration & Office Systems Technology.
“I re-entered in 2003 and graduated from the first Medical Assisting program,” said Huskins. “ I am currently employed by Yancey House Assisted Living & Memory Care as the Business Office Manager. I truly love working with the geriatric population and their families.
The Yancey House also has a Memory Care Unit that specializes in care for patients with Dementia.
“The Lord has blessed me and my family so much and it all began in the Adult Education Learning Lab and curriculum classes at Mayland Community College,” said Huskins. “Our son is now ready to enter college and I am encouraging him to attend MCC.”
