Auto Safety Inspection (8 Hours)

This course prepares auto technicians and service personnel as safety inspector for motor vehicles. It includes regulations and test inspection procedures and is taught to insure that the student understands the rules and regulations can inspect a vehicle properly and can successfully pass qualification exams for certification as a safety auto inspector at a licensed inspection station. Brow Threading class (6 Hours)

Learn about the history and techniques used in the 6000 year old art of threading to remove unwanted hair. Students will also learn how to remove excess facial hair and create elegantly arched brows that will enhance your clients face shape. NEW Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) (210 Hours)

Students will have the opportunity to take the NC State EPA certification exam upon completion of the course.
The course objective is to provide each student with basic knowledge and skills to become a quality entry-level employee in the HVAC industry. Some industry related fields include but are not limited to: equipment and duct installers, duct cleaners, service technicians. The projected job outlook for this career field is expected to grow 21% between 2012 and 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. That is faster than the average for most other occupations. Currently, the national average hourly wage for HVAC technicians is $21.89 or $45,540 annually. Students in this program may be eligible for scholarship funds.

Qualified Electricians are always in demand. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts an increase of nearly 20% in the number of job opportunities for Electricians by 2022. Electricians read blueprints, solve complex math problems and install electrical systems (all while adhering to numerous electrical and building codes). If you enjoy exercising your brain while working with your hands, then a job as an electrician may be right for you! Due to extensive job training, most electricians are qualified to choose among a variety of work environments including construction, electrical maintenance, commercial, residential and contracting. Currently, the national average hourly wage for electricians is $25.62 and the annual average is $53,294. Students in this program may be eligible for scholarship funds.

NC Concealed Carry Handgun (10 Hours)

This class provides the training and certificate needed to apply for a handgun permit at any Sheriff’s Department in NC. You must be at least 21 and a NC resident. To attend this class, you cannot have been convicted of any felonies or misdemeanor violent crimes. Bring 100 rounds of ammunition, a handgun, and holster to the firing range portion of the class ONLY. Bring a bag lunch. Space is limited so pre-register early. From 1:00-6:00 pm will be the firing range portion of the class, so do not bring firearms into the MCC campus. A fee will be required by the Sheriff’s Office in order to register for the permit.

Defensive Driving (4 Hours)

This program trains motorists in the principles of defensive driving and is made available by the District Attorney through Mayland Community College, Mountain Professionals, Inc. and the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina. You must register on or before 4:30PM the day of the class. Class MUST have a minimum of 5 students paid & registered to make. Classes will be canceled if class minimum isn’t met. When you come to register you must have the following information ready: driver’s license, social security number and citation (ticket).There is a non-refundable $65 class registration (cash or money order only) fee. Students 16-18 years of age must have a “Dual Enrollment Form” filled out prior to receiving a certificate.

Mayland Community College offers many convenient, online courses for teachers looking to complete CEUs. Each course is 24 hours in length or 2.4 CEUs per class. Please verify acceptance of these courses for CEU renewal with your local Board of Education.
