Placement Testing Procedure

Placement Testing

Step 1) Each student must meet with a MCC Admission Advisor and complete an Application for Admission prior to testing.

Step 2) Study and prepare for the MCC Placement Test (Accuplacer) by accessing our study guide from the link below or by working with an instructor in the Adult Education Department. Assistance from the Adult Education Department is free, provided by trained instructors, and offered in all three counties. Higher scores on the placement test can shorten the number of classes you have to take to graduate and reduce your tuition costs.

Step 3) Call the MCC Admissions Office at 828-766-1234 to schedule a testing appointment. Testing is available on the Main Campus in Spruce Pine, at the Avery Learning Center in Newland, and the Yancey Learning Center in Burnsville.

Step 4) After you have completed the placement test you will be provided a copy of your test scores.  Please keep this copy as a record for yourself.

REMEMBER THAT THE PLACEMENT TEST MUST BE TAKEN BEFORE YOU CAN REGISTER FOR CLASSES!
